Cantina · Juárez · Mexico City
Cananea
A brand new cantina built to feel fifty years old: birria tacos, pool tables, a loaded rockola, and two for one Palomas before 8pm.
The Pitch
The Instant Classic Trick
Cananea sits at Calle Marsella 28 in Juárez, a few blocks from Metro Cuauhtémoc, named for the Sonoran mining town. The Infatuation places it among the 19 best bars in Mexico City and credits the chef behind Merotoro with the kitchen.
It opened in 2024 and plays decades older. GOOD TIME's city guide jokes that by midnight someone will swear it is the oldest bar in the area.
Food & Pleasure reads it as a border cantina blurring the classic and the rebel, down to the carne seca botanas.
The Room
Stained Glass and Pool Chalk
Stained glass, Budweiser pool table lamps, oak slats, deliberately beat up chairs, and wonky stairs make up GOOD TIME's inventory of the room. The pool tables stay busy, and the rockola jumps from Nirvana to Rihanna depending on who holds the coins.
The Infatuation files the whole effect under New York dive bar energy, transplanted to Juárez.

The Drinks
Palomas, Then the Deep Cuts
Tuesday and Wednesday run two for one Cuba Libres from 4 to 8pm with free botanas on each round, per The Infatuation; Time Out México lists the two for one Paloma window across the same hours. The house list gets stranger and better from there.
The Yellow Julep stacks Chartreuse, mint, and Fernet, and the Pintito mixes rosé vermouth, gin, and sparkling wine, both per Food & Pleasure. Eat the tijuanense birria tacos or the bacon wrapped Sonoran hot dog.
The Crowd
Bolos On, Stickers Out
GOOD TIME catalogs sticker sleeve guys and kitten heeled girls racking pool next to corrido band members still in bolos after a set. Early evenings stay loose around the promo hours; Saturdays after 8pm a DJ tips the room over, per The Infatuation.
What regulars say:
- The Infatuation: come Saturday after 8pm for the DJ, in full party mood.
- GOOD TIME: an old school cantina illusion convincing enough to fool you by midnight.
- Food & Pleasure: the kitchen runs deeper than cantina standard, grilled cheese de lengua included.
Who it is for:
- Pool players who want birria between racks
- Anyone homesick for the border while in the capital
- Avoid if you need quiet or a printed cocktail menu
The Verdict
Where It Lands
Juárez's best new fake antique. Take the happy hour, stay for the rockola.
