The Basement occupies the lower level of The Edition Miami Beach, Ian Schrager's landmark South Beach hotel. The concept is genuinely unusual: a late-night bar that also contains a bowling alley and an ice-skating rink, all designed with the same precision applied to every room in the building. This is not a novelty act. The cocktail program is serious, the service is polished, and the crowd skews toward people who know exactly what they are doing on a Wednesday night in Miami.

The bar seats around 80 people in the primary drinking area, which is low-lit, leather-heavy, and anchored by a long bar with a well-stocked back wall. Cocktails pull from a seasonally rotating menu built around classic structures and elevated ingredients. The rum selection deserves particular attention — the bar carries 40+ labels, and the staff can walk you through regional differences if that is of interest. The bowling lanes and ice rink run simultaneously with the bar, creating a dynamic that is hard to replicate anywhere. You can bowl, skate, and order cocktails table-side throughout the evening. Reservations for the lanes or ice time are separate from bar seating and book up quickly on Fridays and Saturdays. The bar area itself can be accessed without a reservation, though a table minimum applies for seated groups.

When to Go

The Basement opens Wednesday through Sunday, starting at 10pm. The room reaches full energy around midnight. Thursday nights are a sweet spot: fewer people than weekends, still a strong crowd, and shorter waits at the bar. Friday and Saturday hit capacity quickly, and the door can have a line from 11pm onwards. Plan accordingly if you intend to walk in.

The Edition's main terrace bar upstairs is a good place to start the evening before descending to The Basement. Order there at sunset, have dinner elsewhere, and return for the late set. This is a room that earns its reputation after 11:30pm — arriving earlier gets you the bar to yourself but misses the atmosphere that makes the place work.
