Tennessee Brew Works

Brewery and Taproom SoBro $$

Tennessee Brew Works occupies a two-story warehouse at 809 Ewing Avenue, on the southern edge of downtown Nashville below the Division Street Bridge. Nashville Downtown places it three blocks south of the Music City Center, which makes it one of the most walkable production breweries in the city.

This is a working brewery with the taproom built around the tanks, not a bar with beer trucked in. The brewhouse runs through the middle of the building, and the upstairs bar looks down onto the stainless steel where the beer is actually made. The result is a room that feels industrial and friendly at the same time, with long communal tables and space for a crowd.

The beer is the reason to come. The lineup covers the styles a Nashville drinker expects, from a clean Southern Wit and a flagship IPA to seasonal and barrel-aged releases that rotate through the year. The brewery has collected medals at national competitions, and the taproom is where those beers taste freshest, poured a few steps from the source.

What to order: the Southern Wit is the easy introduction, a wheat beer brewed with local honey that suits a warm afternoon. Hop drinkers should head for the flagship IPA, and anyone with time should ask what is pouring from the barrel program. A flight is the smart play for a first visit, since it covers the range without commitment.

The kitchen sends out elevated pub food built to go with beer rather than fight it, and live music lands on the schedule through the week, which turns a quick pint into a long evening. Who it is for: craft beer drinkers, groups after work, and visitors who want a real Nashville brewery within walking distance of downtown. Who it is not for: anyone seeking a quiet cocktail lounge or a late-night club, since the room closes by mid-evening.

The best time to go is a weekend afternoon, when the brewery runs at full tilt and the patio and upstairs bar are both open. Weeknights are calmer and better for tasting through a flight without a wait. The taproom is open daily, closing at 10pm most nights and 8pm on Sunday.
