About The Sailing Bar
The Sailing Bar has 14 seats, no sign on the door, and a cocktail programme that regularly places it in conversations about Osaka's best hidden drinking rooms. It opened in 2016 in Kitahorie, a neighbourhood slightly west of the tourist trail, and has quietly built a following that includes most of Osaka's off-duty bartenders.
Owner Takeru Yamamoto spent seven years working in hotel bars before opening this room. The menu changes quarterly and treats the cocktail as a seasonal object: spring brings lighter citrus-forward serves, summer goes cold and bright, autumn leans into smoke and barrel, winter returns to warming stirred drinks and Japanese whisky. The execution at each stage is exceptional.
Kitahorie itself is worth the trip: small boutiques, independent coffee shops, and a handful of restaurants where locals eat. The Sailing Bar sits in a ground-floor shopfront that looks like it could be anything from the outside. Inside, the long wooden bar faces a shelf built with purpose, not spectacle.
Those who prefer finding a bar without being told where to look will be rewarded here. The reward is proportionate to the effort. Best time to visit is Saturday from 18:00, before the room fills.
