Our Take

Our Take on Dierks Bentley's Whiskey Row

Celebrity bar concepts have a poor record. They arrive with marketing budgets, hire consultants to build a menu that looks like someone's idea of what a bar should serve, and then coast on name recognition until the novelty wears off. Dierks Bentley's Whiskey Row is not that bar. The country music star built something in Downtown Phoenix that functions first as a genuinely good place to drink, with the celebrity story as context rather than as the whole point.

Three floors give you options. The ground floor is a proper bar room, busy most evenings but not oppressively so, with 80+ American whiskeys organised by style and a food menu that includes chicken sandwiches serious enough to order twice. The second floor has more seating and better sight lines for live performances. The rooftop is where most people eventually end up: open to the Arizona sky with views across to South Mountain when the air is clear, which in Phoenix is most of the year.

The whiskey selection genuinely earns attention. The bourbons lean toward craft producers from Kentucky and Tennessee you would not find at a generic hotel bar — Maker's Mark 46, Blanton's, Wild Turkey Rare Breed — alongside some smaller distilleries that reward exploration. If you are in a group navigating American whiskey for the first time, the flight options here are better than most dedicated whiskey bars manage. For a more intimate whiskey experience, Seamus McCaffrey's around the corner has the Irish and Scotch side covered.

What to Order
American Whiskey Flight
3 pours chosen by style: a wheated bourbon, a high-rye, and a Tennessee whiskey. Good value, and the bar team will walk you through the differences if you ask.
Smoky Mountain Old Fashioned
The house take on the classic uses a Tennessee whiskey base with smoked simple syrup. Better than the standard hotel-bar version most Phoenix spots produce.
Blanton's Single Barrel
Drink it neat. If Blanton's is on the shelf — and it usually is here — this is not the place to mix it. The round bottle and horse stopper are worth the presentation alone.
Chicken Biscuit Sandwich
Order it. The bar food here is better than it needs to be. The biscuit is made in-house and the chicken is crispy without being austere.
Best Time to Visit

Weekday evenings from 6–9pm for a quiet whiskey without the weekend crowd. Friday rooftop from 7pm is the full Whiskey Row experience. Live performances most weekend nights from 8pm.

Who It Is For

Groups and bourbon explorers. Works well for visitors who want a Phoenix bar that is accessible and genuinely fun rather than demanding. The rooftop alone is worth the visit during the October to April sweet spot when Phoenix weather is perfect.
