Walk-ins welcome most nights
Phoenix has no shortage of rooftop bars, but most of them are in hotels facing the wrong direction both geographically and culturally. The Ostrich is the exception. Anchored in Roosevelt Row, the city's genuine arts quarter, it draws the people who actually live and work in central Phoenix: designers, musicians, chefs, and gallery owners who have earned the right to be opinionated about their cocktails.
The bar runs across two levels. Downstairs is moody and well-lit — exposed concrete, leather bar stools, a back bar stocked with serious mezcal and agave selections that you would not find at your average hospitality-group venue. Upstairs, the rooftop opens to the Arizona sky with string lights, palm trees, and views across the Arts District that remind you Phoenix has actual bones when you look in the right direction.
The cocktail list is seasonal and concise, which is always a good sign. Bartenders here know when to use mezcal as a base rather than a garnish, and the low-ABV options are not an afterthought. We recommend arriving before 7pm on weekends to secure a rooftop table — after that, expect to stand and enjoy it anyway.
Tuesday through Thursday, 6–9pm for the full bar experience without weekend crowds. Sunday afternoons on the rooftop are quietly excellent when the city slows down.
The Roosevelt Row crowd: locals with taste and a genuine interest in what is in their glass. If you are staying in a hotel on the Strip, still worth the Uber. This is the bar Phoenix actually drinks at.
