VinoRoma is not a walk-in bar but a dedicated wine studio on Via in Selci 84/G, a quiet side street in Monti near the Cavour metro. It has run Rome's first and longest-standing English-language Italian wine tastings since 2008, and it is the rare venue in the city built solely for tasting, with no kitchen service or passing trade to interrupt a session.
The model is a guided tasting led by a certified sommelier in a purpose-built room and cellar. Expats Living in Rome lists it as a Monti fixture, and the studio's own draw is the focus, a small group, a set of poured wines and someone who can talk you through what is in the glass.
Every wine VinoRoma pours comes from small independent producers using a low-intervention, hands-off approach, the studio is explicit about that. Sessions step through styles and regions rather than serving by the glass, so this is the place to actually learn the Italian list, not just drink it.
Public tastings run Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 5pm to 7pm and cost around 50 euro a head, with private sessions on other days. Booking is essential, since the room is small and built around the group rather than a bar counter. The location near Cavour makes it an easy add to a day around the Colosseum and the forums.
Come to understand Italian wine with a sommelier rather than to perch for a casual glass. For drinking rooms nearby, see our Rome wine bars guide, the best wine bars worldwide list, and the wine bars index.
Public tastings run Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 5pm to 7pm, so plan around those windows and book ahead. The room is small and fills.
