Our Take

Heritage Akasaka Cocktail Discipline

Bar de Ronde has been operating in an Akasaka basement for decades and is one of the heritage Tokyo cocktail bars. The room is preserved mid-century — leather banquettes, vintage glassware, brass fittings — and the cocktail programme has changed minimally over the years.

The drinks are immaculate classical Japanese cocktails. The Old Fashioned, the Manhattan, the Sidecar are all benchmark. The whisky and Cognac back bar runs deep into vintage bottles, including pre-1980 Japanese single malts and Cognac from defunct producers.

The crowd is older Tokyo professionals and serious cocktail enthusiasts. Pair with Bar High Five in Ginza for the complete heritage Tokyo cocktail evening.
