Toronto's Craft Beer Benchmark
Bar Hop has held its position as Toronto's most credible craft beer bar since opening on King West in 2012. The 50-tap wall covers every style intelligently: 8 to 10 local Ontario brews rotate alongside selections from Quebec microbreweries, US craft stalwarts from Vermont and the Pacific Northwest, and rotating taps from Scandinavian producers that you will not find elsewhere in the city. The tap list changes often enough to reward regular visits.
What separates Bar Hop from the city's more recent craft beer arrivals is the kitchen. The beer-braised short rib grilled cheese has been on the menu since year two and remains the best food decision you can make while navigating 50 tap choices. The staff know the list properly. Ask for a recommendation based on what you had last time and you will get an intelligent answer, not a sales pitch for the highest-margin handle.
King West on Friday evenings is crowded, and Bar Hop fills to capacity by 7pm. Come at 5pm or after 10pm. The back section near the tap wall seats 14 and clears faster than the main floor. If Toronto's craft beer scene is what you are here for, Bar Hop is the starting point before you explore the neighbourhood-focused rooms like Civil Liberties in Bloor West Village or Bar Isabel for something more food-forward. Toronto's craft beer scene has matured considerably since 2015. Bar Hop is why.
