What Banter Room Is
Banter Room opened in 2017 at 1039 Mainland Street, in the space Romer's Burger Bar left behind (Daily Hive). It runs from weekend brunch through 2am cocktails, one block from Yaletown Roundhouse station.
This is Yaletown's group bar. Big tables, a long marble counter, espresso martini flights, and a patio that fills first on warm evenings.
Drinkers who want quiet should go elsewhere. Reviewers on Yelp flag the noise as the room's defining feature, and they are not wrong.
Reading the Room
One large room plus a covered patio. Brass fixtures, marble, banquettes built for six.
Vancouver Is Awesome covered the 2025 patio and menu refresh; from May through September the patio is the seat to ask for.
The Menu, Edited
Skip the quiet date plan. Order food with the cocktails; the kitchen is an equal partner in this room.
Who Shows Up, and When
Weekday happy hour, 2pm to 5pm daily, draws the office crowd off Mainland and Hamilton.
Weekend brunch flips the room to birthday tables and bachelorette groups. After 9pm on Friday and Saturday the volume climbs and stays there.
Reservations run through OpenTable and are worth making for any table of six or more.
What Regulars Say
- A warm, energetic room with friendly staff and creative cocktails, per the consensus across Google Maps reviews and Yelp's 145 plus reviews.
- Multiple Yelp reviewers warn that volume gets uncomfortable at peak. This is a talking over music room.
- Vancouver Is Awesome featured the patio among Yaletown's best group seats in its 2025 coverage.
- The room hosted a North America's 50 Best Bars pop up event in April 2025, per viewthevibe.com, a marker of where its cocktail program sits.
Who It Is For
- Groups of four or more celebrating anything.
- Espresso martini drinkers who want the full taxonomy.
- Avoid if you want a quiet conversation; the room does not do quiet.
Before You Go
Banter Room takes cards and OpenTable bookings. Brunch starts at 11am on weekends and the patio seats go first.
Yaletown Roundhouse station is one block west; street parking on Mainland is scarce after 6pm. Happy hour is the cheapest read on the cocktail list.
