Das Haus Bar occupies what is probably the smallest footprint of any bar on our Zurich list — 14 seats, a narrow zinc counter, two low tables near the window — and it gets away with it entirely because of what the bar team does within that space. This is cocktail bartending approached with the same precision a chef applies to a tasting menu. The seasonal menu changes every eight weeks and is built around a single thematic thread: winter editions lean into fermented and aged flavours; summer menus celebrate fresh Swiss herbs and native botanicals.
The location in Niederdorf, Zurich's Old Town neighbourhood, gives it the advantage of cobbled streets and 15th-century architecture on the walk in — the kind of context that makes the first drink taste better. The bar sits just off the main tourist drag but is not discovered by accident. You either know about it or someone who knows about Zurich cocktail bars sent you there. Both methods of arrival are acceptable.
"Das Haus manages a rare trick: it makes you feel like the most interesting person in Zurich simply by knowing it exists."
The bartender-to-guest ratio at Das Haus is, by design, almost one-to-one on quiet evenings. This creates conversations that improve both the experience and the cocktails — the team takes customer preferences into account on the fly, adjusting drinks and suggesting alternatives with the confidence of people who have thought carefully about what they do. For a date night in Zurich, we place this at the top of the list. For a solo evening with something worth thinking about, it is equally excellent. The bar also pairs naturally with nearby Kaufleuten Bar for those who want to extend an evening.
A Tuesday or Wednesday evening when the bar is quiet and the bartenders are not stretched. Arrive at 8pm, stay for three drinks, let the evening develop at its own pace. Weekends are busier and reservations are increasingly necessary from Thursday onward. Given the limited seating, walk-ins on a Saturday risk not getting a stool.
