The room. Maialino Mare occupies the ground floor of the Marriott Edition Times Square, but the design team wisely ignored that fact. Inside is calm, candlelit, and acoustically soft — three qualities a good first date needs and most NYC restaurant-bars actively work against.
The cocktail programme leans Italian — Negronis, Aperol-driven highballs, vermouth-led aperitivos — and runs at a higher technical level than most date-night spots. Bar manager rotates seasonal creations quarterly; the classics are correct.
And the food. The seafood-leaning menu (this is the coastal sister to Danny Meyer's original Maialino) gives you something to talk about beyond the standard date-bar small plates. Reservations essential after 7pm; the bar takes walk-ins until 6:30.
