In Sofia, three pints out costs about €4.50. In Reykjavik the same round runs near €28.50. That six-fold gap, drawn from April 2025 pub prices across Europe, is the single clearest number in our cheapest-night-out ranking for 2026.
We priced a simple yardstick for a night out, a three-pint round, in cities our editors cover. Pint prices come from a Free Price Compare survey of European bar prices (April 2025), cross-checked against a global pint-price index from Finder. Eastern and Southern Europe dominate the value end. The Nordics and Paris sit at the costly end. Here is where a night out costs the least.

Sofia, Warsaw and Lisbon lead on value
Sofia is the cheapest major city we track for a straight night on beer. A pint averages €1.50, so a three-pint evening lands near €4.50 before tips. Warsaw follows at €2.40 a pint, then Lisbon at €2.50. All three pair low alcohol duty with lower city-centre rents, which keeps bar prices down even as the rest of the continent climbs.
Lisbon is the standout for travelers who want warm weather with the low price. A pint there costs roughly a third of a London pour. Our guide to the cheapest cities with great bars reaches the same verdict from the quality angle: the value cities are not short on good rooms, they are short on markups. For the local picture, see our Lisbon bar guide and Prague bar guide.
Where a night out gets expensive
At the other end, Reykjavik (€9.50 a pint), Oslo (€9.00) and Copenhagen (€8.00) turn a three-pint night into a €24 to €29 outing. Stockholm (€7.50) and Paris (€7.00) are not far behind. High alcohol taxes drive most of that gap. A Reykjavik night out costs about six times a Sofia one for the same three drinks.
Add a cocktail and the spread widens. Cocktails carry more labor and a higher pour cost, which is why a single drink can run past €15 in the priciest rooms. Our explainer on how bars price their drinks breaks down where that money goes, from rent to the garnish.
What the basket does and does not tell you
The three-pint figure measures a beer-led night, not a full evening with food, entry and cocktails. It is a clean way to compare cities because beer prices are well surveyed and move together. Treat it as a relative gauge. A Madrid night and an Athens night will differ by neighbourhood, by venue and by what you order.
As a second check we read our own data. Across the 3,631 bars we list in our 72-city dataset, the share of venues we tag at the entry price tier is highest in Krakow, Prague, Madrid and Lisbon, the same budget cities the pint survey flags. That price-tier signal reflects the mix of bars we list rather than the local cost of living, so we use it only to confirm direction, not to set the ranking. How to keep a night cheap anywhere
Three habits move the bill more than the city does. Drink the local lager on tap rather than imported bottles. Start before 8pm where happy-hour pricing still runs. Stay one neighbourhood off the main tourist strip, where the same pint often costs a third less. Those choices can turn a Berlin or Rome night into Lisbon money.
Methodology
Pint prices are city averages from a Free Price Compare European beer-price survey (data April 2025, published September 2025), cross-checked against a 177-country Finder pint index. The basket is three pints per city, before tip. Price-tier direction was confirmed against barsforKings internal data of 3,631 bars across 72 cities, pulled June 2026. Cities shown are those our editors cover. Currency in EUR. We omit any city without a surveyed pint price.
