Suvarnabhumi (BKK) is one of Asia's busiest hubs and a cathedral-scale airport designed by Helmut Jahn — a vast steel-and-glass terminal that's beautiful, oppressively hot at the wrong hours, and full of long walks between gates. Concourse G has the better post-security drinking, including the Royal Silk Lounge (Thai Airways flagship, Star Alliance Gold) and a respectable airside Asian-spirits bar. Don Mueang (DMK), the older low-cost-carrier airport, doesn't have a competing drinking story.
The cheat code at BKK is the Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel — directly attached to the terminal by a five-minute covered walkway, with a properly-staffed bar that pours competent Thai gin (Iron Balls, Old Tom Bangkok) at non-airport prices. If you've got 90 spare minutes pre-airport, the Airport Rail Link to Phaya Thai is 26 minutes; from there, BKK Social Club at the Four Seasons Bangkok is one of Asia's best cocktail bars and twenty minutes by taxi.

Skip the airport entirely. These rooms are worth the cab, even with luggage.
