Our Take

De Pijp's Most Comfortable Bar

Cafe Brecht is a German themed bar in De Pijp with the most comfortable interior of any Amsterdam bar. Deep mismatched armchairs, tall ceilings, dim warm lighting, and a long beer and wine list. The bar is named for Bertolt Brecht and references his Berlin.

The drinks are simple — German and Belgian beers on tap, German Riesling and natural wine, basic cocktails. The food menu is small German pub plates. The bar is best in winter when the heated room and deep chairs are most appealing.

The crowd is mid-thirties De Pijp locals and visiting Berlin transplants. Pair with the wider Amsterdam after work scene for a complete De Pijp evening.
