Baba au Rum has been operating on Klitiou Street, in the small grid of bars between Monastiraki and Athinas, since 2009 - which makes it one of the oldest serious cocktail bars in Athens. The bar's pitch is straightforward: rum, taken seriously, from every producing region. The list runs around 200 bottles and is the most-rounded rum selection in Greece. The right way to understand the bar is to read its pour distribution.
Approximately 0% of pours are not rum-related; the bar carries a small selection of beer, wine and other spirits for non-rum-drinkers but does not pretend they are the point. Order a Daiquiri first, ask the bartender to pick a Caribbean for the second pour, and let the bar build the rest of the evening. The room is small (around forty seats), the lighting is warm, and the soundtrack runs from Cuban son through reggae. Closed Sundays.
