The Clumsies

Cocktail Bar Hidden Gems $$$

To understand The Clumsies, you have to understand when it opened. Vassilis Kyritsis and Nikos Bakoulis cut the ribbon on Praxitelous Street in 2014 - the year unemployment in Greece was 26.5%, the second deepest economic depression on European Union record, and the year most international hospitality investors were quietly closing rather than opening Athens projects. The bar that emerged from that moment is one of the most decorated cocktail rooms in the world. The story is the trajectory.

The bar itself is split across two floors and a back garden. Order the Watermelon and Cucumber - the bar's standing signature, built on tequila, watermelon-shrub, cucumber juice, salt — first. After that, the bartender will steer you through the seasonal menu, which leans heavily on Greek ingredients. Reservations recommended for tables; the bar takes walk-ins early in the evening.
