Our Take on Milión
The building at Paraná 1048 was designed in 1913 by the French architect Pablo Pater for an Argentine banking family. Over a century later it houses the most architecturally impressive bar in Buenos Aires, and possibly the most beautiful terrace you will find in any city on this continent. The conversion preserved the original marble staircase, stained glass windows, and ornate plasterwork ceilings while adding three additional floors of bar space and a wraparound garden level that functions as an outdoor lounge until 2am.
Milión is large by Buenos Aires standards, seating around 300 across its various levels. The ground floor is the most intimate: low ceilings, candles on marble, the bar framed by the original carved wood fittings. The terrace is where most people want to be, and on warm nights it fills early. The drinks programme is competent rather than exceptional, which is fine given everything else the building is doing for you. The gin and tonics are correctly assembled, the Malbec wine list is well chosen, and the house cocktails would be adequate at any venue.
Come for the setting, order what you like, stay for two or three rounds, then consider walking to Gran Bar Danzón ten minutes away for a serious cocktail to finish the night. If you're comparing rooftop bars in Buenos Aires, Milión is the most complete experience, though the cocktail programme at Florería Atlántico is in a different class.
