Our Take on The Football
specialist The Football Café is the East End specialist that does what its name suggests with no apology and a level of detail that the rest of British football pub culture rarely matches. The screen layout is unusually well-thought-through — separate zones for SPL, English Premier League, Champions League and continental coverage, with the audio routed to a small standing area for whichever match is the day's headline — and the memorabilia programme is genuinely curated rather than dumped on the walls.
The beer programme is competent rather than ambitious, with Tennent's, Belhaven and a small craft rotation; the food is honest pub work. The crowd is overwhelmingly Celtic-leaning given the East End postcode, but the room is functionally neutral on derby days. It ranks third because the editorial depth of the football programme is among the most considered in the country.
