The Globe

Wine Bars $$

Twenty years of stubborn Central consistency, with a New World programme the orthodox rooms refuse to touch.

· Wine list The Globe is the Central wine-and-craft-beer institution that has run on Garden Road since 2005 and earned its position through stubborn consistency rather than scene-chasing. The wine programme is broader than the by-the-glass-heavy Central rooms — three hundred references on the cellar list, twenty-five by the glass at any time, and a deliberate willingness to programme New World producers (Mac Forbes, Crystallum, Eben Sadie) that the more orthodox Hong Kong bars ignore.

The food is gastropub-leaning and the room is loud enough to discourage formality. Ranks fourth because the programme is broader than deep but the consistency over twenty years has built genuine trust with the city's resident expat trade.
