The Quiosque is entirely outdoors with seating under the trees in the Jardim do Principe Real. The best seats face the square. It is open in all weather except heavy rain. Pair a visit with a walk around the Principe Real antique market on Saturday mornings.

The kiosk bars scattered across Lisbon's squares are one of the city's better kept secrets. The Quiosque de Principe Real is the finest of them. Set in the ornamental garden of the Praca do Principe Real, with old plane trees providing shade in summer and a view across one of the city's most handsome squares, it operates on a straightforward model: cold wine, simple cocktails, good coffee, and outdoor seating that encourages you to stay as long as you like.
The wine list runs to 20 or so Portuguese bottles with a strong representation from the Alentejo and Douro. By the glass prices are among the lowest you will find in Lisbon for wines of this quality. The gin selection focuses on Portuguese producers. In the afternoons, the crowd mixes locals doing nothing in particular with visitors who have found their way up from Chiado. By early evening, the after-work Lisbon crowd takes over. It is a bar that serves different purposes at different times of day without feeling inconsistent.
This is the kind of place that makes Lisbon feel like a city worth living in rather than just visiting. Immediately adjacent, the Pavilhao Chines on Rua Dom Pedro V offers an entirely different experience for after dark. Across the city, the Park Bar in Bairro Alto represents the rooftop alternative for the same outdoor spirit. The after-work bars of Lisbon cover the full picture for this time of day.

Best Time to Visit
Late afternoon from 17:00 to 19:30 is the golden window. The square catches the late sun from the west, the Saturday antique market has cleared, and the evening crowd has not yet arrived. On summer Saturdays the square fills by 19:00 and stays lively until closing. In winter the bar stays open on warmer days and is, if anything, more beautiful with fewer people.
Who It Is For
Everyone. This is one of those genuinely democratic bars where the price point and the setting welcome anyone. It is equally appropriate for a first drink before dinner, a lazy afternoon with a book, or a spontaneous stop on a walk through Principe Real. The Lisbon bar guide covers the full range of what this neighbourhood and the rest of the city has to offer.
