The Marais Bar That Made Oysters and Natural Wine the Move
Le Mary Celeste opened in 2013 from the Experimental group. The corner bar at the intersection of rue Commines and rue Pastourelle is small and bright, with a long zinc bar, a few high tables, and an oyster station. The format — fresh oysters, natural wine by the glass, small Mediterranean plates, and a tight cocktail menu — became the template that several Paris bars have since copied.
The natural wine list rotates weekly with around 40 European bottles. The oysters come from Brittany. The cocktail menu is short and modern. The kitchen runs small plates: fish crudo, vegetables, charcuterie.
The crowd is mid-thirties Marais locals and visiting wine enthusiasts. Best for an early evening drink before dinner. Pair with Little Red Door for a Marais natural-wine-then-cocktails evening.
