Our Take on Rontom's
Rontom's occupies a corner of Lower Burnside that has been a neighbourhood bar in one form or another for longer than most of Portland's current residents have lived in the city. The bar earned its loyal following through consistency rather than reinvention. Come most evenings and you will find a mixed crowd of regulars, workers from nearby restaurants, and the occasional visitor who found it the way visitors still find the best bars: by asking a local.
The patio is the main event in the warmer months, a generous outdoor space that catches late-afternoon sun and holds a crowd without feeling like a theme park. The drinks are honest and well-priced. The cocktail list leans into Pacific Northwest spirits and produce without making a song and dance about it. Oregon gin, local vermouths, seasonal fruit when it is genuinely good. Nothing is overworked.
If you are building a Portland bar crawl, Rontom's sits naturally between Pepe Le Moko and the broader Portland hidden gem scene. It is the kind of bar that gives a city its character. Come early for patio space, or late when the inside fills up and the conversation gets better.
