Our Take on O
list · Modern Konstantin Filippou's wine-bar annex on Dominikanerbastei runs the most considered glass programme in the first district. Sommelier Romana Echensperger built a list that takes Wachau Riesling and Smaragd-level Grüner seriously — F.X.
Pichler, Hirtzberger, Nikolaihof — and counterweights it with a strong run of Greek and Slovenian bottles you simply will not find elsewhere in Vienna. The by-the-glass programme rotates monthly, with twelve options weighted toward the producers Filippou's kitchen is cooking for that week.
The food — short, Greek-leaning, faultless — includes a brilliant taramasalata, charred octopus and a single rotating snack. The room is forty seats with a small standing bar at the back. Second because the buying is among the most adventurous in central Vienna, and because the kitchen-to-glass synchronisation is the most precise in the city.
