Our Take on Vinifero
wine · Modern Vinifero is the room that decisively reframed Vienna as a natural-wine city worth flying for. Opened in 2017 on a quiet stretch of Naglergasse by sommelier Lukas Holzinger — formerly of Tian — the bar runs a list of close to four hundred bottles weighted toward Burgenland, Styria and the wider Mitteleuropean low-intervention belt.
Glass pours rotate twice weekly and routinely include single-case allocations from Gut Oggau, Christian Tschida and Claus Preisinger that don't reach the rest of the city. The room is twenty-two seats around a marble counter, lit deliberately low, with a small kitchen turning out brisket on rye, beef-fat butter, raw fish with horseradish.
There is no printed list. Vinifero earns the top slot because no other room in Vienna combines Austrian producer-direct buying, sommelier candour and walk-in intimacy at this consistency.
