A for Athens

Rooftop Bar Hidden Gems $$$

A for Athens is the rooftop bar at the A for Athens hotel, a small property on the north side of Monastiraki square. The bar occupies the seventh floor and the rooftop above it. The view is, bluntly, the best rooftop view in central Athens: the Acropolis directly south, Mount Lycabettus to the east, the city sweeping in every direction. The bar opens at 6pm and is best between sunset and 9pm. The right way to think about the menu is to read it against the view.

The right time to arrive is 6.45pm in summer (sunset around 8.50pm), 5.30pm in winter (sunset around 5.30pm). Reservations are essential for sunset slots between April and October; the bar takes walk-ins at quieter hours. The Acropolis is dramatically lit from approximately 8pm onwards; the lights stay on until midnight. The bar closes at 1am.

A for Athens tops our best rooftop bars in Athens guide. Compare it with 360 Cocktail Bar across the square and the Hotel Grande Bretagne roof in Syntagma, browse every option on the Athens rooftop bars hub, or find rooftop bars near me.
