Our Take on Casa del
· Old guard Casa del Vino has been on Via dell'Ariento since 1875 and is the closest thing Florence has to a wine institution that refuses to behave like one. The current owner, Gianni Migliorini, is the fourth generation behind the marble-and-wood counter, and he pours twelve to fifteen Tuscan wines by the glass at lunchtime prices that have somehow stayed at three to five euros.
The food is crostini and lampredotto, sliced to order, and the room operates without seats — you stand at the counter, you eat, you drink, you leave. Ranks fifth because the format is intentionally narrow but the cultural footprint is enormous and the pricing has held the line against the entire San Lorenzo market.
