Our Take on Coquinarius
· Wine + plates Coquinarius on Via delle Oche has been pouring on the cathedral side of the Centro Storico since 1999, and the room has aged into the kind of trusted everyday wine bar that the city's tour-group traffic somehow never managed to ruin. The list runs Tuscan-led but extends seriously into the Veneto, with twenty-something whites by the glass and a properly cellared Bolgheri red section.
Carpaccio of beef and pici with tartufo come out of an open kitchen and exist to accompany the wine rather than to compete. Ranks seventh because the programme is broader than deep, but the consistency over twenty-five years has earned the position.
