Sin + Tax opened on Bolton Road in Rosebank in 2016 as the most internationally ambitious cocktail bar in South Africa. By 2018 it was on World's 50 Best Bars at No. 36; by 2019 it had risen to No. 11 — the highest a Johannesburg bar has ranked, and the highest a sub-Saharan African bar has ranked in the list's history. The bar's original menu was organised around the seven deadly sins, with each sin paired to a specific cocktail. The current menu rotates seasonally but the seven-sins framing has stayed as the bar's identity. Here is the current edition.
The seven cocktails are the bar's standing menu. There is also a rotating seasonal section of around five drinks and a sectioned non-alcoholic menu (the bar takes the zero-proof programme seriously enough to put it on the same printed list as the sins).
