Our Take on Furco

Furco arrived in Montreal's downtown without fanfare and became indispensable almost immediately. Set inside a converted warehouse on Rue Mayor, a block from Sherbrooke, the bar occupies a long industrial space with exposed ducts, reclaimed wood, and a back-lit bar that turns the bottles into architecture. The room feels considered without trying too hard — which is exactly the effect.

The drinks programme mirrors the space: technically rigorous, seasonally driven, not showy. The bartenders here understand balance in a way that feels effortless, which is the hardest thing to fake. On any given Tuesday evening you will find architects arguing about zoning, record-label people working on laptops until 6pm, and the kind of food-industry crowd that starts their evening after their shift ends. That mix is not accidental. Furco actively resists the weekend-tourist bar model.

Montreal's after-work scene rewards exploration — our after-work bars guide for Montreal covers 12 spots we trust, and Furco sits comfortably near the top. For context on the broader city, the Montreal bar guide is the place to start.

What to Order

Smoked Maple Old Fashioned

Bourbon, Quebec maple syrup, Angostura, smoked orange. The local ingredient treated with proper respect.

Furco Spritz

The house aperitivo: Aperol, dry white wine, elderflower, soda. Lighter than the standard Aperol Spritz and considerably better.

Negroni

The benchmark drink for any serious bar. Furco's version is textbook — cold, balanced, without unnecessary drama.

Seasonal Sour

Changes quarterly using whatever fruit is at its peak. Ask what is running now. The answer is almost always the right call.

Best Time to Visit

Monday through Thursday between 5pm and 8pm for a calm first-drink experience with room at the bar. Friday evenings fill quickly after 6pm. Arrive before 7pm on Fridays or accept a wait.

Who It Is For

The Montreal creative class and anyone who wants a serious drink in a room that feels alive without being loud. Couples, small groups, solo professionals. Not the bar for a large birthday dinner. Very much the bar for a long Tuesday that turned into Wednesday.
