Our Take on The
wine · Michelin The Four Horsemen is the bar that ended the argument about whether natural wine could be taken seriously by the institutional restaurant world. James Murphy's Williamsburg room — opened in 2015, Michelin-starred since 2022 — built a list that pulled from Loire, Friuli, Etna and a handful of Californian producers nobody else in New York was buying, then made it work for both the wine obsessive and the diner walking in cold.
The by-the-glass programme rotates weekly, the food is calibrated to make the wine taste better rather than the other way round, and the floor team is one of the best in the city. It ranks first because no other New York wine bar has matched it for clarity of programme across an entire decade.
