Our Take on Barcha
· Modern Barcha opened on Valencia in 2021 and represents the Mission's most serious second-generation natural-wine room — owner-sommelier Nora Kim came over from Terroir and built a list weighted explicitly toward California low-intervention producers (Stagiaire, La Onda, Subject to Change) that she felt the older generation of natural bars had underplayed.
The by-the-glass rotation runs fifteen references with weekly turn, the food is short and Korean-Californian, and the room is twenty seats and standing-room behind. Ranks third because the California-natural buying perspective is the freshest in the city and the room is loud enough to make casual evening drinking feel like a scene.
