Our Take on The Italian Homemade Co.
· Modern The Italian Homemade Co. on Union Street has spent the past decade quietly building the most committed Italian wine programme in North Beach — a list weighted toward Piedmont, Etna and Friuli with serious vertical sets of Brovia Barolo and Mascarello Barbaresco, plus a Sicilian natural-wine section drawn from Frank Cornelissen and Arianna Occhipinti. Wine director Giulia Bertelli imports allocations directly via Vinitaly-trained relationships, and the by-the-glass rotation runs fifteen references with weekly turn.
The food is house-made pasta. Ranks second because the single-country Italian focus genuinely outclasses every comparable San Francisco room and the cellar runs deeper than the format suggests.
