Priya covers the global cocktail-cities beat for barsforKings — Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, Mumbai, Seoul, Taipei and the Middle East. She is based in Singapore, was born in Mumbai and raised in three cities, and has lived in eight more. Her editorial work sits between cocktail writing and cultural reporting; she filed her first bar review at twenty-two and has not stopped.

Before barsforKings, Priya wrote on hospitality and global cocktail culture for two regional magazines and a Singapore-based weekly. Her academic background is in cultural anthropology, which informs her approach to bar reviews — she is more interested in why a room works for the city it is in than in the specific cocktail menu.

Priya has interviewed bartenders in nine languages (none of them fluently except English and Hindi), spent six weeks profiling Tokyo's Ginza-bar scene for our annual ranking, and has firm views about why Hong Kong's bar scene is misunderstood by visiting Western press. Her Bangkok coverage in particular is widely cited.

She leads barsforKings' annual rankings for Tokyo, Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangkok, and has editorial oversight of all Middle East and South Asian content.
