Tom covers craft beer, whisky and the pub culture of the British Isles and northern Europe for barsforKings. He grew up around a small brewery in Co. Wicklow, spent four years as a brewer himself, and has been writing on beer and whisky since 2013. He has been on staff at barsforKings since 2018.

His beat covers Dublin, Edinburgh, London and the wider UK pub scene, plus the brewing capitals of central and northern Europe — Munich, Hamburg, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo, Helsinki and Reykjavík. He has judged at three regional beer awards, hosted whisky tastings on three continents, and contributes a monthly column on craft beer to a UK trade publication.

Tom took on cocktail-bar coverage for barsforKings reluctantly at first and has since become a strong, dry-humoured advocate for the rooms that do both well — a proper short cocktail list and a five-pump tap wall. He has firm opinions about which Dublin pubs serve the right Guinness and which Edinburgh whisky bars actually understand their stock.

He runs barsforKings' annual craft beer rankings and is the lead editor on the after-work and birthday occasion guides for the British Isles and Nordic cities.
