Plaka, Athens
Athens's Oldest Distillery, Still Pouring Since 1909
Brettos is the oldest distillery in Athens — operating since 1909 in the same Plaka shopfront. The wall of 60+ backlit liqueur bottles is the most photographed bar wall in Greece. Tsipouro, ouzo, mastiha, raki, and a deep range of fruit liqueurs are all distilled in-house.
The cocktail program is simple — straight shots of distilled liqueurs, ouzo with water, tsipouro with mezze. The crowd is heritage tourists and older Athens locals. Cash-friendly. Open all day from 11am.
Pair with The Clumsies after for modern Athens cocktail technique.
