Our Take on Weinstube
· Heuriger Weinstube Josefstadt is the closest thing inner Vienna has to a working Stadtheuriger — a courtyard tavern with the Buschenschank licence to serve only its own wine, in this case from the family vineyards in Stammersdorf across the Danube. The garden seats around eighty, the building dates to the 1750s, and the wine is unbottled by design: house Gemischter Satz, a young Grüner, a Zweigelt, all served in viertel measures from earthenware jugs.
The food is heuriger canonical — Aufstriche, blutwurst, schmalzbrot, a brilliant Liptauer. There is no list, no sommelier theatre, no Spotify. Sixth because it is the only inner-district heuriger that still drinks like a working Stammersdorf garden, and because the house Gemischter Satz remains the city's correct introduction to the style.
