Cocktails
The Sidecar's origin has been argued about for a century without anyone changing their mind. Harry's New York Bar in Paris claims it was invented around 1922 by Harry MacElhone for an American Army captain who would arrive at the bar in his motorcycle's sidecar — hence the name. The Buck's Club in London claims its bartender Pat MacGarry was making it earlier than that. Harry Craddock at the Savoy claims a third version. The drink is in the published bartender's literature from 1922 onward; before that, it was in the air. Like a number of postwar Paris cocktails, the Sidecar has multiple credible inventors and one dubious official one.
